By Sandra L. Toney Fran Capo is the Guinness Book of Records' Fastest Talking Female. Besides that, she is an accomplished actress, a gifted author, and a captivating comedienne.
"A friend of mine, Scott Bruce, who designed my web site and is a fellow comedian, said it was a great way to sell my books and let people know where I was performing. I decided that I should use my computer for more than just email, so I gave it a shot." Once she gave the go-ahead for the site, Bruce had it up and running in just a few days. "Since it is through America Online, the page is free -- except of course for my $19.99 monthly fee," Capo explains. "He charged me $250, since I was a friend, to put the whole thing together, including scanning the pictures. I am also planning on getting a website by March with FranCapo.com," she continues. Although he manages the site, Bruce didn't work alone on the development of the world's fastest talker's promotional home on the net. "Scott, Bobby (ex-husband), and I worked it out together. "Among us, we decided what information was needed, a way to display interesting pictures, a page for the books and products, and a bio so they could get to know me," she says. "We are working on adding sound bytes (Bobby's idea), so people can actually hear my fast talking, or clips from my radio or TV show interviews." It does make you wonder, however, about what speed modem, processor, etc., you're going to need to actually LISTEN to Fran's accelerated dialogue!
So far, she has appeared on dozens of television and radio talk shows including The Rosie O'Donnell Show, Regis and Kathie Lee, Entertainment Tonight, Geraldo, and Howard Stern. "I have it on all of my press releases, business cards, in the back of my books, and I tell people about it by word of mouth," Capo says. "I have no problem mentioning it to people because, to me, it's fun. I like checking out other people's sites too, to get ideas and see what is appealing." She continues, "I'm a freelance writer and have a lot of stories online, in the short bio at the end, I list my webpage. Also, when articles are in the written media like newspapers, or like my story in Chicken Soup for the Woman's Soul (page 82), it mentions it in the bio. "It's really cool, because the other day I got email from someone in India who read my article, checked out my site, and wanted to tell me she liked my work. I'm like a kid . . . I love this stuff!" she exclaims. As far as selling services from her site, "Mainly I get corporate work, or book orders," she maintains. "The newspapers seem pleased that people can find out more about me on the web." In the long run, Fran Capo wants her website to inform as many people as possible about her and what she does. "For an entertainer and writer, that is the key. But more importantly, it's that I can interact with my fans. I really like the fact that they can ask me questions and I get quick feedback that I've affected people's lives in a positive way." Capo loves having her own website for many reasons: "I feel I'm in on a neat new toy. I'm still learning about computers and all the things I can do with the site. "The fact that it is linked to other sites, too, is neat because we are all helping each other. I really like anything in life that is a win-win situation," she says, showing that spunky, positive attitude that has helped make her famous. "And staying with the times, making people laugh, and connecting through the internet makes me feel like I have friends all over the world."
