Scrapbook Ideas & Resources
Host
Joanne Draper

As more people become interested in preserving their heritage, scrapbooking has become a popular hobby. As its popularity has grown, it has become more than a just a way to organize photographs and other memorabilia, it's now an art form in itself.

When I became interested in putting my photos in some kind of order, I knew nothing about acid-free products, and why they are important. A red-eye pen---what was that? And what in the world was a layout?

Since I discovered the Internet several years ago, it has become a rich resource for information, particularly when I'm trying to learn something new. Learning about scrapbooking was no exception; the first time I did a search, I found more than 100 web sites with information about scrapbooking. The following are a few of my favorites:

Scrapbook Ideas.com

A nice homey site, which invites you to "find new Scrapbooking ideas and leave some of your own." Pull up a chair by the fireplace, and peruse the hundreds of page layouts, order idea books from the online bookstore, and post ideas, questions, and comments on the bulletin board.

Scrap Happy!

Everything you'd ever want to know about scrapbooking is in this site, from how to get started, to resources for materials, to techniques for hand lettering pages... The only thing I didn't find was ideas for making more time to scrapbook. Maybe next month...

Scrapbook Addict

Subtitled "Home to more Scrapbook links and information than you ever imagined", this site features a layout section, message boards, and a mailing list. Unique to this site is a Special Memories page.

There is a series of favorites and firsts, much like a traditional baby book. The author's idea was to record, or have her children record the responses to these to create their own memory pages for their scrapbooks.

Sunset Visions of Computer Scrapbooking

This site is maintained by a teacher (like me!). A wealth of articles will take you step by step through techniques for using your computer and other digital equipment (scanner, digital camera) to make scrapbooking easy and fun.

dMarie--Creative Scrapbook Headquarters

This site is organized simply and elegantly. There are more than 2000 examples of page layouts here--you can't help but get inspired! One especially neat feature is the time capsule. It's a historical database of facts from the past.

You type in the date you're interested in and click the button. In seconds, a page will appear about that date--how much a loaf of bread cost, famous people born on that day, etc. I'd tell you one from my birthday, but I might date myself! :)

Graceful Bee Online Memory Magazine

A comprehensive and straightforward compendium of information on scrapbooking and preserving memorabilia, this site is a must-see for the beginning scrapbooker.

The information changes frequently, so it's wise to check this site often. One feature I like in particular is called "Carpe Diem." It's described as being "devoted to seeing each and every day as a memory making opportunity."

Jangle--Hot News, Cool Fun For Scrapbookers!

A big, bold, colorful site with sections such as "Jangle Magic Scrapbook Maker (TM)", "Ahhh! Memory Lane", and "On the Road: Scrappie's News" to entice you. There's a Jangle Coffee Shop, with message boards and a chat room.

There are tips on taking good photos (Keep those fingers off the lens!) and contests to enter. There's even a section for kids. Can't start those scrapbookers too early!

Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook Magazine
This is the online version of a print magazine I love! It contains some articles from the current issue, plus an article index of its past issues, from its premiere in November 1996 to December 1997.

You can also log on to a message board and share ideas with other scrapbookers around the country. I surf to this site when I can't wait for the newest issue to come.
