Devorah Stone
Imagine touring the world's art galleries or visiting an ancient temple in a far away land.
Almost all the world's art treasures -- from the sculptures of the ancient Egyptians to the soup
cans of Andy Warhol -- are online.
You can view cyber versions of great works of art. Read essays on history and stories about
artists' lives. Come on a tour of world art, history, artists and shopping. Learn about art
history, or just take in the world's artistic valuables with these Internet sites.
Web Museum
The Web Museum with its vast art collection is the best spot to start your Virtual art tour.
Visit the world's artists and galleries all over North and South America, Asia, Australia and
Europe.
Read the lives of artist's. Browse through a glossary of painting styles from Gothic to Pop.
Treat yourself to a virtual tour of Paris including the Louvre, the Champs-Elysees and the
Montmarte.
Artist Index
Find artists' works and life stories in the Web Museum Artists' Index. Artists here range from the
early Renaissance Master Sandro Botticelli, to the American abstract impressionist Jackson
Pollock.
I found the pages on Peter Paul Ruebens a Flemish Renaissance artist, Rembrant the Dutch Master,
Mary Casset -- an American who painted in the French Impressionist style, and Paul Klee, the
playful and fascinating modern creator.
World Art Treasures
The Jacques-Edouard Berger Foundation has donated 10,000 art slides from Egypt, China, Japan,
India and Europe to World Art Treasures. Take a guided tour of a Javanese stupa with Jacques-
Edouard Berger.
Feast your eyes on full screen pictures of Italian Renaissance water fountains, or ancient
Egyptian figurines or temples in Burma. Notes follow every work.
Art of the Western World
Ever wanted to take a course in Western World Art? Here you can learn through a nine-part study
series. Start with a guide to Greek and Roman mythology.
Travel through the Renaissance, Baroque, Impressionist and Contemporary Ages. You can also visit
online versions of current Art Gallery shows such as "Gauguin and the Pont-Aven" and "Picasso and
Portraiture."
I picked these two artists' sites because I liked the presentation of their art.
Georgia O'Keefe
Georgia O'Keefe was an American woman artist who lived all over the United States, but did her
best- known work in the Southwest. Her life history and work -- from her large flowers to the
stark death images of the desert -- are here with easy to understand text. I found the
photographs of the artist from 1915 to 1982 revealed much about the artist's life and works.
Art Mark
If merely looking at art is not enough for you, consider buying. The Art Mart is an online
commercial art gallery, selling mostly prints of modern artists. You can buy the works of Bateman,
Chagall, Dali, Klee, Lichenstien, Toulous- Lautrec, Warhol and Wyeth. Prices range from $500 to
$75,000.
Whether you are a serious student of art or an art lover, or just someone who knows what they
like, the cyber art world is the next best thing to being there!
