Boating Folks

I grew up on boats, crewing on the family's cabin cruiser at age four. When
I was 14-15 years old, I built my first sailboat. I live on a quiet bay in
Washington State, and love to get on the water under power, sail, or any
which way.

Boating clubs and other organizations are a great way to meet people who
love boating; people who are crazy enough to own a "hole in the water that
you throw money into."

Whether you're a joiner who likes to raft up at an anchorage and party on, a
socialite who enjoys a quiet seaside brunch, an armchair admiral craving
tall tales of tall ships, or a novice desperately seeking advice and
support, know that there are places to go where everyone welcomes you
aboard.

Yacht and Sailing Clubs

If you want to join a club, here's a great place to start. This is an
extensive list of clubs all over the U.S. and Canada.

Boating Sailing

What, you're moving to Hong Kong? No worries, Mate. Webstation sponsors this list of clubs all over the world, along with other boating information.

The All Volunteer Yacht club

The All Volunteer Yacht Club is a fun place to hang out with boaters and
share your tales of the sea. Their Motto: "Dedicated to using objects that
float for fun and relaxation." The club newsletter says, "Members enjoy a
boat load of benefits, most of which we haven't even thought up yet!" AND
membership is FREE!!!!!!!

International Sailing Federation

The International Sailing Foundation is the authority for the sport of
sailing world-wide. This includes being the organizer of the
Olympic Sailing Regatta. Although the International Olympic Committee
has exclusive rights to live coverage of the races, this
site does have instant reports and a link to the IOC's live reports.
Other live coverage includes the BT Global Challenge,
where you can follow the yachts racing around the world. Other links go
to help of all kinds for the sailor.

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the civilian volunteer arm of the United
States Coast Guard - 35,000 men and women who donate their time and
expertise to support the Coast Guard and improve boating safety. The
Auxiliary offers great boating classes, and Courtesy Safety Inspections of
your boat. Members can also work their way up, and join the Coast Guard as
enlisted members, or as officers!

Mick Bird's Trans-Oceanic Rowing Expedition Daily Report

This is the place to meet one guy who's got a lot of Folks behind him.
It's a GOAL Adventure Site featuring Mick Bird's daily Reports from the high
seas, on his voyage around the world in a rowboat. GOALS is the Global
Online Adventure Learning Site, and children in classrooms all over the
world talk with Mick by Email daily.

SailNet

There's a whole community of sailors here, trading resources. Articles,
reports, and resources of all kinds are featured. You'll
find help on learning to sail, seamanship, buying a boat, outfitting it,
and everything else you want to know. If you don't find it
here, you will find an expert on hand to ask.

Whether official or just for fun; whether for a personal contact with a
family on an adventure, a course on water safety, or the America's Cup
racing schedule, visiting these folks will stretch your boating horizon.

They'll introduce you to friends you've never met, whether they be friends
who own the same kind of boat as you, mentors, or single folks who just like
boating as much as single you.
