Cyberfolks Friendly Guided Web Site Tours
Welcome to the Wild E-Kingdom
By
Valter Aguiar
Because animals have been among man's keenest interests,
they of course have a large presence on the Worldwide Web. Pets, wild animals,
virtual zoos... There are plenty of places on the web where you can see,
hear and learn more about animals. Join us in this tour and you may end
up with a different kind of electronic pet.
The Cyber Zoomobile
At this virtual zoo, you will find photos of animals, trivia, quizzes
and complete information on each species. Try to find out the clue for
the brain teaser, or take part in the monthly draw – you may win a nice
animal souvenir!
Zoo in the Wild
Another virtual zoo, with information on all listed animals and species,
as well as the sounds they make. There are plenty of photos also – what'
the Web without images, after all? This site is hosted in Italy, thus
it's bilingual - English/Italian – so don't worry about the Italian names
of some animals in the list.
Australian A to Z Animal
Archive
Very interesting visiting, as this site offers an alphabetical listing
of animals living in Australia – and also those which are extinct. Photos
and characteristics of each one are included. You'll learn that kangaroos
can live for 20 years and can sprint 20 mph for 10 miles or more.
Sounds
of the World's Animals
Join in to hear the sounds animals made by animals from around the world.
From elephants to owls, all kinds of sounds are included – and not only
the sounds, but also each sound's phonetic representation, all in the
world's main languages.
Don't be surprised if it seems that the rooster's sound is different
in other parts of the world – it is just the phonetic spelling that's
different.
Pandas, Pandas &
More Pandas
A very well-designed site about the pandas, an almost extinct species
of fox still living in China. It is illustrated with photos of pandas
and typical Chinese songs. You need Macromedia
Shockwave to play with the panda – a nice on-line game designed specifically
for children.
Pandas have been around since the ice age, two million years ago, but
now only 1,000 of them are alive. Find out how you can play a role in
their preservation!
Pete
& Barbara's Penguin Page
These nice little animals from the South Pole have been explored in
full by a number of cartoons. Everybody remembers the adventures of little
Chilly Willy, and how about our dear Pingu and his family? On this Penguin
Page, you will find the description of all 17 penguin species living in
Antarctica and in other regions of the world.
Take a look at the site's FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions), learn
about the penguin's behavior, check their photos, places where you can
see penguins live and also the site's "Penguin-balls" – a list of people's
general misconceptions about penguins.
Live
Marine Specimens
If you prefer marine animals, check this site to see all kinds of algae,
medusas, worms, sponges, mollusks, arthropods... Photos taken in the ocean's
depths are available, as well as information on each species. First-rated
for those interested in the life below sea level.
Middle
School Earth Science Explorer
If you've had enough of pandas, penguins, marine and other living animals,
have a look at this site, devoted to animals you will not find in any
zoo – dinosaurs! Learn how they lived, which species are known to us and
how they are supposed to have disappeared from the Earth's surface (check
the meteoroid impact that may have put an end to the dinosaur era).
There is also a dinosaur puzzle, but fortunately they are no longer
here to make us afraid of them... Look, what's that thing coming through
your window?!
