Palm Top Computing

Almost three years ago I traded my brain
in for a better model. No, I didn't fly to Switzerland for some obscure
brain transplant or visit the lair of the mad scientist. I bought myself
a brand new state-of-the-art Palm Pilot
Professional.
Almost three years later, my new artificial brain has
itself gotten an upgrade, but it's still ticking. It tells me where
to go and when to go there.
It prevents me from buying books and CDs I already
own by actually remembering what I already own. It provides reading
material for those long commutes. It provides games when I don't feel
like reading. The upgrade has been a roaring success.
When I first considered buying a handheld computer,
there were several choices available and I turned to the Internet to
help me determine the best choice for me. I was amazed at the number
of sites devoted to different handheld computers, and the quantity and
quality of information available on
them.
I made my choice based on this information, and I have
been very happy. Today I run my own successful Palm
website, but
there are still several Palm sites I visit nearly every day. The information
and services they provide are truly first rate.
PalmStation
Just like most people, I start my day with the news.
But I don't pick up the local paper or even head to cnn.com. No, I go
straight to PalmStation. Hosting news
articles and rumors submitted by Palm enthusiasts world-wide, you can
bet PalmStation has all of the Palm news that's fit to digitize.
Palmgear
What's a computer without software to run on it? Pretty
boring. PalmGear is the place to go to download all of the latest and
greatest applications, utilities, and games. As an added bonus, Calvin's
FAQ now lives here. If you have questions about how Palms work, chances
are you'll find the answer in the FAQ.
MemoWare
Like to read? MemoWare is the site for you. MemoWare
houses more than 6,000 Palm-formatted eBooks and databases. Almost all
of them are free. The books cover a wide span of topics from all sorts
of reference material to classic works of literature to science fiction
to poetry to historical works and just about everything in between.
I don't visit these sites every day, but I do find
their exceptional resources useful when I do visit them:
The
Gadgeteer
Not sure if a Palm is right for you? Unclear which
Palm unit you should buy? Want information on the latest cases or keyboards?
The Gadgeteer is the site for you. Reviews abound on this site. There
are reviews of every Palm device, more cases than I can count, a ton
of different styli, other accessories or add-on hardware devices, and
even some software reviews.
PalmLife
PalmLife sells some terrific products including the
FlashPlug expansion module and the HandiPak case, but what really sets
this site apart is the web portal to the #palmchat channel on the OpenProjects
IRC network. Palm users and developers world-wide hang out there, chatting
and answering questions about Palms. PalmLife also hosts a comprehensive
Palm Easter Egg page. These easter eggs can be a lot of fun to play
with.
Seahorse
Software
Okay, I admit it. I am an addict. I'm not addicted
to drugs or alcohol, cigarettes or caffeine. No, I am addicted to something
far harder to break away from - Seahorse Software games. Seahorse Software
produces highly addictive card
games ranging from Rummy to Euchre to many types of solitaire. Three
of the solitaire games have high score pages that keep me coming back
to compare myself to the best of the best.
These are a mere sampling of the wonderful sites devoted
to Palms. There are many other news, download, review, and software
sites that will enhance your Palm experience.
