Are you interested in saving the world, or at least the environment in which you live? The sites below will keep you informed of environmental emergencies and atrocities that are happening now AND offer constructive ways that you can help. (You can even take action without leaving your computer!)
Read about how Greenpeace is trying to prevent pollution of the Earth through both radical and basic acts. Find your local office on the site and how you can begin a letter-writing campaign.
Do your part to help save the whales. For less than $20, you can adopt a whale for yourself or for someone you love. Your money will go to a ship that works to protect whales from fishing and you'll receive some pictures, a certificate and a biography of your whale.
In addition to seeing some great rainforest pictures and cool graphics, you'll find out exactly which large companies are helping to destroy the rainforest. You'll also learn seven new things to do to save the rainforest without spending any money!
Find out what the world's most endangered species are and read how the WWF is trying to preserve the animals' natural habitats. You can become a member for $15 or shop for some cool WWF products.
EarthWatch works to improve the environment through field projects and scientific research. You don't even have to be a scientist to take part in the projects. And students can receive college credit for joining an EarthWatch team.
Since the National Parks are so crowded lately, why not try a National Forest? You'll find maps and recreation info on the site, as well as details on making campground reservations. Or learn how you can volunteer in the forests.
If whales aren't your thing, then why not adopt a gorilla instead? For a $30 donation to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, you can adopt an endangered mountain gorilla.
