Hello, my name's David. Recently I've been into multiplayer gaming over the Internet. There are heaps games addicts out there, so its easy to get lost in the thousands of sites. The thing I found really great with Internet gaming is the fact that you can play head to head with someone just about anywhere in the world, and that you can organize 7 or 8 player games with your friends. Anyway, if you're new to Internet gaming and want to get into it, it's pretty hard to know where to begin. So here's a list of sites to get you started. But I'm warning you, it's addictive!!

First off you'll need to get a game to play. These are all retail games, so to get the full game you'll have to pay, but the sites below should give you information on where to get them, as well as a shareware version, which although will be limited, should be playable over the Internet.

Doom/Doom2

The first of the really great multiplayer games.

Quake

Made by the creators of Doom/Doom2 (id Software), as far as I know the best 3D shoot'em-up around. Needs a Pentium to run well.

Descent/Descent2

Descent 2 is particularly good for gaming over the Internet. This site is also great for getting info on upcoming games, hints on playing Descent as well as patches and other nice things for their games.

Command & Conquer/Red Alert

Red alert is great for Internet gaming, and Internet games are simple and easy to set up, no to mention the game is great!!! Westwood's (the makers of Red Alert\Command & Conquer) web site is excellent, and you can find out heaps about their games.

Duke Nukem 3d

This is an excellent 3D shoot'em-up, perhaps not quite as good as Quake (above) but still excellent. Though you can have troubles setting up Internet games without a really fast PC, this is a really fun game!!!!

Warcraft2/Diablo

Warcraft2 is great for Internet gaming, but Diablo is what really stands out as a truly great game for play over the Internet. Diablo, unlike most other games was made with Internet play in mind, so its really easy to set up.

OK, I know there are tons more games around, and the chances are that any game you've recently purchased can be played over the Internet. So now that you've got a game you'll need to get other software to make it playable over the Net. Kali, with over 70,000 users is the most popular software. There is also a list of games playable over Kali at there web site:

Kali

There is a Windows95 and DOS version of Kali. I strongly advise the Windows95 version as its much, much easier to set up. I find Kali the best of all the software programs that allows you to play over the Internet, as you rarely have trouble finding a someone to play. Kali costs $US20, and there is a 15 minute trial period allowed before registration.

There are also a number of other Kali clones, the largest of which is Kahn:

Kahn

Kahn also has Windows95 and DOS versions. Kahn allows an unlimited trial period before registration, and costs $US15 to register.

Here are some sites that are useful for computer games in general, as well as for multiplayer games.

Doomgate

This is a great site for downloading shareware games, as well as patches, add-ons and information on almost every game out at the moment. Check out the Doomgate FAQ, which has just about everything you could possibly want to ask about Internet gaming.

Stomped

This is a really excellent site, which is mainly about Quake. Here you will find lots of Quake servers, Quake add-ons and patches. The other thing I really like about this site is the performance charts. Here you can find out what frame rates other people are getting when playing multiplayer Quake games.

Hyper@ctive

Personally this is one of my favorite gaming sites. Its got a great interface, and is updated daily to bring you all the details on the latest games. You can also download games and it also has reviews of heaps of games. Truly worth a visit!

Games Domain

I like this site a lot, as it is really devoted to serving the gaming world. With reviews, dowloads, sneak peeks into upcoming titles, freebies and host of guest sites Games Domain really does have just about everything you could want. Its even got an online shop!!!!

Well I hope you enjoyed looking at these sites as much as I enjoyed putting them together. I strongly recommend a look at these sites if you're thinking of joining the Internet gaming craze. Well, bye bye and happy gaming!!!!!
