Teenagers are driven mad by how silly and uncool their parents are...but when children are young, the sillier their parents act, the better. So essentially, your kids make you goofy and then hate you for it. Well, my kid is still in the "sing the doo dah song and stand on your head, Mommy" stage (she's two), so I haven't been reined in yet. But whatever silliness stage you're in, you need stress-relievers, right? We all could use a laugh. Even if seeing me standing on my head singing wouldn't make you laugh, here are some web sites that might give you a chuckle.
You can really spend a lot of time perusing the silly links at the Center for the Easily Amused, especially if you are among those of us who are easily amused! Their motto is "Life's too short to take seriously" and it shows! In addition to silly links, they have a "Short Attention Span Site of the Week," free calendar you can download, and more links sorted by category. They also offer an "Amused Amigos Pen Pal" page, which I have not tried, but seems like a nice feature.
This web site focuses on the television sitcoms of the 1950's and includes photos and sound clips from shows such as "The Honeymooners" and "I Love Lucy." Although I missed the show when it was first running, I grew up witreruns of "I love Lucy." Lucille Ball always made me laugh! The episode of her and Ethel working at the candy factory, shoving chocolate candy in their mouths, hats, and shirts was a classic. And the one with Lucy and Harpo Marx at the mirror...and the one where Lucy is at the vineyard stomping on grapes.. and...
Tina's Humor Archives contain a vast array of jokes and articles that have made their way around the net. The archives have humor about computers, pets, politics, kids, books, science and more. There may be some sections that aren't your cup of tea, such as "tasteless" humor, but there are many from which to choose, so give it a whirl. There is also a link to humor e-mail lists.
If you have pets, or just find cats and dogs humorous creatures, you might enjoy this site, called "Funny Animal Stuff." We have a cat and a dog (and some fish - but nobody tells jokes about fish) who keep me in line, so I really appreciate these. The pieces include: "Reasons Dogs Don't Use Computers," "Mapping of the Cat Brain," "Doggie at the Movies," and "5 Reasons to Take Cats on Vacation."
The Comedy Catch page that I found offers something a little different: it lists comedians' web pages and e-mail addresses. It was created by a comedy club owner as a booking source, but it is nice for people who are just curious about which comics are on the net. These might not all be famous comedians, but you may recognize a local comic or find an old favorite (like a George Burns memorial page).
Jay's Comedy Club is similar to Tina's Humor Archives in that it is a "repository of humor." Its categories are a bit different though: "Amusing Stories," "Computer and Technology Jokes," "Star Trek and Star Wars Jokes," "Top Ten and Other Lists," and "Watson's Light Bulb Jokes" are among Jay's selections. So if you like David Letterman's "Top Ten" lists or if you can't get enough of the Star Wars hoopla, this might appeal to you.
