Cyberfolk Friendly Guided Web Site Tours

Of Sizzlin' Salsa & Other Fiery Foods

Host
Rena Larranaga

Calling all Chile-heads! Whether you're hot for habeneros, cuckoo for cayenne, or passionate for poblanos, you're not alone. More and more consumers are becoming chile connoisseurs.

Being from New Mexico, touted as the green chile capital of the world, I've enjoyed some of the best (and hottest!) chile around. If you can't travel to the Southwest to get your fill of fiery foods, just hop on your computer for a culinary experience.

The Chile Pepper Institute is a non-profit organization devoted to education, research, publication, and archiving information related to Capsicums or chile peppers. Selected stories from its quarterly newsletter are available online. Past topics have included making your own ristras, caring for chile transplants, and identifying Peruvian aji chiles.

FireGirl contains absolutely everything about chile peppers. This site is home to creative chile art, poetry, fiery chats, and information about eating, cooking, buying, using, and worshipping the all-powerful chile.

The Chile-Heads Home Page hosts a fantastic forum where chile-heads discuss hot topics including favorite peppers, recipes, gardening success stories, and personal inventories of hot sauces in their fridges. It's THE Internet Gathering Spot for Pepper Fanatics!

The Fiery Foods Super Site is home to three e'zines. "Cookin' with Heat" is a consumer e'zine with spicy recipes and nutrition information. "Hot Shop Talk" is an industry e'zine with breaking news and a listing of who's who in the business. Finally, "Tales from the Pit" is a barbecue e'zine with juicy tidbits and beefy information.

Tingling Taste Buds

If salsa is your specialty, check out this list of 100+ salsa recipes. Pear, avocado, jicama, and watermelon make their way into Clay's creations. NEW YORK CITY?!? Get a rope!

The Jalapeno Cafe

An animated graphic of a lizard eating a chile says it all, "The best chile recipes on the web!" Tortilla soup, jalapeno pesto, and green chile rice are just a few of the sizzling samples.

Seed Sources

Shepherd's Garden Seeds offers horticultural tips and recipes for chile and other vegetables in its catalog. All this plus great graphics!

Davis Plant and Seed Company

Pepper Potpourri Ferguson's Leisure Furniture, Inc., helps you call your guests to dinner in style. Expanding on the original triangle dinner bell used on wagon trains, Ferguson's artists have created a variety of new designs, including a chile pepper!

Hands and Hearts

Makers of handmade gifts, have created the perfect item for chile lovers and angel collectors. Their chile angel has braided or curled raffia hair, grapevine wings, and her own personal basket of chile. Ideal for your kitchen!

Bio info: My home state of New Mexico has been touted as the Chile Capital of the World. I realize that finding good (i.e., HOT) Mexican food anywhere outside the Southwest is virtually impossible, so I want to share some cyber sizzle. My favorite meal at a local restaurant is sopapillas stuffed with green chile and ground beef, served with green chile con carne. Mmm!
