Online Resources for Soap Enthusiasts

Soap opera fans now have another avenue to find out the latest scoops
and information about their favorite daytime serials -- the Internet!
Surfing for soaps on the World Wide Web is the newest craze for soap
enthusiasts. From daily recaps of every show to popular magazine
columnist's editorials to interactive polls about what YOU want to happen
on your shows, soap operas are big business online.
All over the planet, soap opera sites are thriving in many different
languages and formats. The following sites, however, are just a few of
MANY great places to obtain the latest information, gossip, and sneak peeks
about the shows and characters you share your lives with each day.
As the World Turns and Guiding Light News and Previews
Created by soap opera fan, Dianne Olsen, this site is actually a quasi-
tribute to Olsen's favorite soap operas, As the World Turns (ATWT) and
Guiding Light (GL). Anyone who visits this site, which splits in two -- a
page for each of the CBS soaps, can immediately tell that Dianne Olsen is
more than just a "fan" of these two long-running daytime serials; she is
hopelessly devoted to them!
With such updated information as spoilers/previews, comings and
goings, links, chat spoilers and info, fan clubs, cast birthday lists, and
a wide array of other interesting topics to peruse, Olsen's page will be a
match made in soap opera "Heaven" for ATWT and GL followers.
CBS Daytime
CBS, which runs four daytime serials each weekday, As the World Turns,
Bold and the Beautiful, Young and the Restless, and Guiding Light
(television longest-running show), offers this official site for its
daytime followers.
With an impressive photo gallery of the soap stars, daily recaps,
sneak peeks, as well as an occasional contest, this site deserves a stop if
you are a fan of CBS daytime. An added bonus -- the Price is Right is
included as a "daytime" show, so be sure to tell all the Bob Barker fans
you know, who should assemble at this site to praise the king of game shows
Collector's Soap Opera Trade
Collectibles of any kind are becoming more and more popular. So, it
is no surprise that soap opera related memorabilia have jumped on the
collectible bandwagon. That's where the Collector's Soap Opera Trade site
enters the picture.
If you are desperately looking for a tape of a certain episode of
General Hospital, perhaps from September 1987, post a message on the site
and, if you're lucky, someone out there in soap opera fan-land has actually
kept this particular episode on video tape. After the initial contact is
made, it is up to you and the other party to decide the payment or trade
value of such collectibles.
There are other memorabilia that soap fans collect as well including
specially-made video tapes (such as GL's "Reva: The Scarlet Years"),
collectible plates, books, trivia card sets, etc. Feel free to browse the
site for such items and/or post your own collectibles for sale or trade.
Collectible soap opera souvenirs are just waiting to be collected by you!
Jeff Jungblut's Soap Links
This is the ultimate page for soap links. There must be hundreds of
links to every single soap-related site, no matter how meager or small, at
Jeff Jungblut's Soap Links page. It is every soap opera fan's fantasy!
What more is there to say? Just go there!
Michael Gill's Media Domain
Did you just finish watching a disturbing episode of Days of Our Lives
and wish you had someone to discuss Sami's evil deeds with? Look no
further -- Michael Gill's Media Domain is a discussion group for soap
lovers. Every daytime serial, as well as the prime time soaps, can be
found at this site.
All you have to do is post a message in your particular soap's area
and wait for the responses to start pouring in. It's a great way to share
your anger, tears, and joy about all your favorite shows.
Ryan Namdar's Sunset Beach Site
This site is not associated with NBC or Sunset Beach's
creator/producer, Aaron Spelling, but it is well done and very up-to-date
with NBC's newest daytime drama, Sunset Beach. Fan Ryan Namdar has
created a riveting site for Sunset followers.
With such areas as: NBC Episode Archives, how to get an episode on
tape, comings and goings, the rumor mill, and even how to contact people
involved with the show, you won't have to go anywhere else to find out
everything you wanted to know about this innovative new soap opera.
Although it's currently in the rating's basement, it has nowhere to go but
up. Visit this site to learn more about daytime at its very best -- Sunset
Beach!
Sundial Internet Service's ABC-TV Soaps
Like CBS, ABC television does have their own "official" website for
their daytime shows, but this central Florida Internet provider, Sundial
Internet Service, actually has a rather decent site for ABC soap fans to
visit. Not that it's better than the ABC official site, just different.
Of course, all of ABC's daytime shows are covered here -- Port
Charles, General Hospital, All My Children, and One Life to Live. Plus,
the site is blessed with great photos and accounts, by actual FANS of the
shows, of the annual ABC soap gathering at Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando.
It's a really fun, INSPIRED site . . .
Sylvi's Soap Polls
Sylvi's soap polls is a place I visit every Monday morning to start
off my week. Each week, Sylvi posts a poll question for each of her
favorite (and my favorite) soap operas, Guiding Light and As the World
Turns.
She asks questions that make you really think, such as the GL question
for the week of November 3, 1997 -- "Which ONE character do you think
needs a good therapist the MOST?" The following Monday morning, the
previous week's answers will be tallied and a brand new question posted.
It's just a fun way to start a Monday!
New and improved soap opera sites will no doubt continue to pop up
daily. Do you need to visit them all? Probably not. But if you want to
spend some long hours learning the history, previews, and the latest soap
buzz, the above-mentioned sites are a good place to start.
